This television series seems like a laughable concept, supported by the sometimes uneven fight scenes and rubber monster suits, but beneath all that is a show that has it all. Somehow this show that deals in otherworldly happenings is more true to the high school experience than shows devoted entirely to that subject. Although it doesn't really hit its stride until halfway through the second season, Buffy will surprise with its depth, humor, and drama. Some episodes stand out in their ambition and quality over anything else that has come or gone since. The spin-off series Angel is more adult themed, but is also well worth watching. Not rated.
