
Research databases are provided as a free service to Arapahoe Library District patrons. Read the descriptions below to help you figure out which database is appropriate for your homework and research needs.

Use this database for high school and college research papers for authoritative information from journals and scholarly publications. For example, if you are working on a paper on technologies used during World War II, this would be a good database to use.

Writing a paper on a famous person? Or do you need to find a famous person, for example, from Ireland to write about and have no idea who to select? Use this database to find specific people or search for people by location, nationality, occupation, or gender.

Use this database to learn more about other countries. There's also a kids edition.

This database includes subjects such as math, English, history and more. For example, if you are searching for a transcript of the Gettysburg Address, you can find it here. You can also find photos, magazine, newspaper, and encyclopedia articles. You won't find deeply informative and scholarly information but this is great topical information for 4th through 8th graders.

This database offers free test prep for the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and AP. There is also GED test prep. Middle and high school students can also use this database for skills improvement in subjects such as math, reading, vocabulary, and writing.

Great for high schoolers with English assignments! You can browse by author or by title of work. Need to find literary criticism of "Hamlet?" Try here.

Find periodicals, newspapers, and reference books on nearly all subjects. This is good for basic factual information that's presented in easy-to-read language for middle schoolers and young high schoolers. It will not be suitable for high-level research assignments.

This is a good starting point for general information. It's the same Ebsco interface as Academic Search Premier so it's a little hard to navigate for beginners and it won't yield the same scholarly material as Academic Search Premier. Use as a starting point or for an overview of a subject.

With full-text articles from only approximately 140 middle school magazines, this database will provide limited but valuable information. Are you a middle schooler doing a report on the civil war? Use this database to find a timeline of events, maps, and a copy of the Gettysburg address. Doing a report on Martin Luther King? Find information on his life as well as images and speeches.

Looking for a good book to read? This database is good to find information on current authors, series, readalikes, and book summaries and reviews. Caution - you may not find great information on books published in the last six months and you may find that read-alikes are not updated quickly.

A very useful database for teens who have to research a controversial issues. It offers pros and cons on subjects such as abortion, cloning, global warming, same-sex marriage and many others. Limit to academic journals to get the more authoritative information; otherwise, the information tends to be more opinions instead of factual and reliable information.

Doing a report on Indian culture? Need information about the Monroe Doctrine? Working on a report about natural disasters? Don't understand "Lord of the Flies?" You can find analyses of many works of literature that are commonly assigned by middle and high school English teachers as well as history, geography, science, and other cultures.
