Just like the movies

Just like the movies

by Kelly Fiore
Pretty, popular Marijke Monti and over-achieving nerd-girl Lily Spencer have little in common—except that neither feels successful when it comes to love. Marijke can’t get her boyfriend to say “I love you” and Lily can’t get a boyfriend at all. When the girls end up at a late night showing of Titanic, sniffling along with the sinking ship, they realize that their love lives could—and should—be better. Which sparks an idea: Why can’t life be like a movie? Why can’t they create perfect romantic situations? Now they have a budding friendship and a plan—to act out grand gestures and get the guys of their dreams. It seems like fun at first, but reality turns out to be much more complicated, and they didn’t take into account that finding true love usually requires finding yourself first.

Wanted

by Kym Brunner
Eighteen-year-old Monroe (named for Marilyn) is smart, but she's outsmarted herself. She's got a full-ride scholarship...and now, an arrest record. One more black mark and she'll be waiting tables for life. The fact that she's grown up with crime memorabilia in her very molecules doesn't help. Her special fascination has always been with outlaw lovers Bonnie and Clyde, whom Monroe romanticizes as something other than the cold-blooded killers they were. Monroe, however, is full of good intentions, until her dad hands her some relics--poetry written by Bonnie Parker and bullets taken from the bodies of the outlaws after they died in a shootout. That's when things get really strange. Those murderous slugs prove pretty dangerous to Monroe and her new friend, Jack, as well, who suddenly begin to feel that the spirits Bonnie and Clyde are actually taking over their personalities. But that's impossible. Or is it? The two outlaws--beautiful, ruthless Bonnie and her awkward sweetheart--seem more than willing to seize another chance at their loco life. Is it just Monroe's overactive imagination? Or can this actually be happening? If Monroe's just hallucinating, what about Jack? Then it becomes clear that Monroe and Jack have only days to get the outlaws back to hell, where they belong, or the two modern-day teens could end up just like Bonnie and Clyde did, together...and dead.

Guy in Real Life

Guy in Real Life

by Steve Brezenoff
From the acclaimed author of Brooklyn, Burning comes Guy in Real Life, an achingly real and profoundly moving love story in the vein of Rainbow Rowell and John Green, about two Minnesota teens whose lives become intertwined through school, role-playing games, and a chance two-a.m. bike accident. It is Labor Day weekend in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and boy and girl collide on a dark street at two thirty in the morning: Lesh, who wears black, listens to metal, and plays MMOs; Svetlana, who embroiders her skirts, listens to Björk and Berlioz, and dungeon masters her own RPG. They should pick themselves up, continue on their way, and never talk to each other again. But they don't. This is a story of the roles we all play—at school, at home, online, and with our friends—and the one person who might be able to show us who we are underneath it all.

The Geography of You and Me

The Geography of You and Me

by Jennifer E Smith

Lucy lives on the twenty-fourth floor. Owen lives in the basement. It's fitting, then, that they meet in the middle -- stuck between two floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they're rescued, Lucy and Owen spend the night wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is back, so is reality. Lucy soon moves abroad with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father. The brief time they spend together leaves a mark. And as their lives take them to Edinburgh and to San Francisco, to Prague and to Portland, Lucy and Owen stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and phone calls. But can they -- despite the odds -- find a way to reunite? Smartly observed and wonderfully romantic, Jennifer E. Smith's new novel shows that the center of the world isn't necessarily a place. Sometimes, it can be a person.

Breakfast Served Anytime

Breakfast Served Anytime

by Sarah Combs
A coming-of-age debut evokes the bittersweet joys and pangs of finding independence in one unforgettable summer away at "geek camp." When Gloria sets out to spend the summer before her senior year at a camp for gifted and talented students, she doesn't know quite what to expect. Fresh from the heartache of losing her grandmother and missing her best friend, Gloria resolves to make the best of her new circumstances. But some things are proving to be more challenging than she expected. Like the series of mysterious clues left by a certain Professor X before he even shows up to teach his class, Secrets of the Written Word. Or the very sweet, but very conservative, roommate whose coal-industry family champions mountaintop removal. Not to mention the obnoxious Mason, who dresses like the Mad Hatter and immediately gets on Gloria's nerves -- but somehow won't escape her thoughts. Beautifully told by debut author Sarah Combs, this honest and touching story of growing up is imbued with the serene atmosphere of Kentucky's natural landscape.

Wheel of Time series ftw :] I seem to be just sitting around in anticipation of the 12th and final novel. Too bad I'll have to wait until at least fall of this year. Any suggestions to fill in the time? I like horror/romance/psychological stuff.

to xosyaraiha: while you're waiting for Wheel of Time #12, try "Eternal" by Cynthia Leitich Smith and the Wake series by Lisa McMann.
