Fantastic First Lines

Book with question mark

Books usually get recommended with a title, an author, an image of the book jacket and a description, but are these first lines enough to entice you?

ummm....sunnie420 i think that u r supposed to put the search thing under "pages in this website" and then enter the book you want into the search area, then comment under the book....that's what it says to do on the page that tells u how to write reviews! (which u can get to by going to the home page and clicking on the 6-12 reading program link, then scroll down a little until u find where it says writing online review or something like that)

Did you like Fat Guy Rules the World by K.L. Goring? Me, too! Meet Liam, and "Aunt Pete," and I almost count the understated dialogue as another character. Good read, feels real.

I am reading The Yearling. Now, since Jody's dog almost got killed by a bear, Jody's dad almost died from a snake bite, and Penny had a endless fight with Forrester, Jody goes on another hunt with his dad and finds a fawn he gets to keep. He now needs to take on a responsibility of protecting the fawn from being exploited or harmed in any way. Jody named the fawn Flag. They are almost like brothers now.

I finished The Yearling and started a new book called The Snows of Mount Kilimonjaro. It is a bunch of stories put together. I just started a chapter called Father and Sons. It is about a man and his son and how they "grow". It is by Earnest Hemingway.

I love this web site it is so easy to find the books I am looking for by just picking the genres!!! It is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

posted Apr 01, 2008 2:34 PM by renee217

ok so a lot of the books that i have read aren't in here. these are very common books that everyone reads but i like ones by other authors that aren't very famous yet, unlike Sarah Dessen, E. Lockhart, ect. we need unheard of books.

this is such an amazing website! i also think that we should have the ability to rate books so that other people can see what other teens think of the book. but other than that, AMAZING!

So basically they would have to take the machinations of their book catalog (where you *can* rate books) and apply them to this place where the niftyness of the stars would meet the awesomeness of black boxes and strange backgrounds.

rating books are tight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

posted Jan 15, 2008 4:25 PM by person

Yeah, that would be pretty cool (the 5 stars thing) and the website is really good

posted Jan 27, 2008 7:43 PM by xosyaraiha

lol to all that was said above. what I want to know is how I can add books/mangas of awesomeness to the niftyness of this site. if I have to refer them, then where? *sigh* I love too much :)
I also agree with the chat box, since everyone loves a good online chat =P

i agree that a rating thing for books would be a cool idea

posted Jun 13, 2008 1:49 PM by alyson*

im glad people think the rating books idea is great...:] but I'm liking the new backgrounds to choose from.

posted Feb 13, 2008 6:22 PM by alyson*

fyi - to add books you have to recommend to the people who run the website. Just look around the site and find an email. ^.^

posted Jan 11, 2008 3:03 PM by alyson*

this is a neat website...but i think there should be a chat box so people can talk about the books, because summaries can't really replace an opinion of another person your age. ^.^

posted Jan 11, 2008 3:10 PM by alyson*

i think that something should be created where you can rate the books...you know, 5 stars? also, i think, people should be able to make booklists of books they've read, so if someone has the same interest as you, they can maybe find more books to read!

I read Unwind and I loved it. It is a great book full of adventure and suspence I couldn't put it down. It is a book about 3 kids who have to try and hide in the shadows from the police and if they are found then they will be sentanced to death. But you will have to read the book to find out what happens to them in the end.

posted Jun 16, 2009 2:18 PM by tanna12

I think they should deffinatley add a chat room cuz then we could talk about some of the books that other people are reading or just chat if we r bored. Lolz :D

I am reading a book that a friend let me read and it is called Skulduggery Pleasent By: Derek Landy. It is probably the best book I have ever read. The book is about a skeleton investigator that can do magic looking for the murder of his freinds uncle.

I LOVE THE LIBRARY! It is always so peaceful and quiet. I can always go there to read or when I am in school,I can go there to find things on subjects for homework and all other sorts of stuff! I love how the library does the Summer reading Program! The Summer reading Program is a great way to have kids do volunteer jobs at the library and a great way for the kids to read more or get more into reading or actually start back up reading again! You should go down to the library and pick up a summer reading program little booklet and a book!

I have read the book 'Dark Hills Divide'. This is a great book if you're a teen who is interested in descriptive adventurous stories. This book is fiction and is by 'Patrick Carman'. These are not the only books that this author has, this book is part of a series, up to five short but not to short books! I highly recommend this series and books they are very interesting and speak for themselves. I will say that it is not as interesting when you start out the books and it may be confusing but it is very good! Just putting up a recommendation for this summer for the reading program 'Make Waves at your Library'. Thanks
